Starting in January

Attention Jr. High/Sr. High Students: starting in January, we will be starting a new series called RESOLUTION. Each day presents us with an opportunity to begin again. This will be a great way to recalibrate our hearts and minds on where God is leading.

WE MADE A TRADE

Screenshot 2015-12-08 23.07.33A generous benefactor has offered to replace our 18 year-old bus with a 2011 model with only 13,000 miles…give or take a few. The newer vehicle was leased to a church in Maryland and we were able to make the purchase when it was returned. We are downsizing to a 15 passenger vehicle which will allow greater use around town and for smaller groups. We thank our anonymous benefactor for their graciousness. God is good!

Shelter Needed – With the remodeling of the Big House, we have no place to shelter the new bus from the elements. Our Trustees are planning to erect a “busport” for that purpose in the near future. If you would like to help with the expense, it would be greatly appreciated

JOSHUA CODE: THE FINALE

the-joshua-code-9781400320707Throughout 2015 we challenged the congregation to memorize or familiarize themselves with one new verse each week from the devotional, The Joshua Code. If you have been engaged in this pursuit of God’s Word, send Pat an email (pat@rockvillecc.com) and share your experience: ie., what verse has been the biggest blessing, the most difficult to grasp, the one you didn’t was in the Bible, etc.

December’s Scripture Cards are available at the Welcome Center.

Clothed in Christ

Baptism1-600x340

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” (Gal 3:26-27 NIV) The New Testament presents three metaphors regarding baptism. It is pictured as a WASHING as seen in Saul of Tarsus’ encounter with Ananias in Damascus. Ananias tells the future apostle: “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16 NLT) It is also pictured as a COVERING. The apostle Paul tells the Galatians that they were “clothed” with Christ when they were baptized (see verse above). The final metaphor is used by Paul in his letters to the Romans and Colossians. He speaks of baptism as a BURIAL and RESURRECTION. Paul wrote: “For you were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” (2:12 NLT) He uses similar terminology in Romans 6:4.

We are thrilled when anyone comes to commit themselves to the Lord. On Sunday, November 22, Larry Risler came to be washed, covered, buried, and brought to new life in Jesus. He is a retired farmer/ truck driver and the husband of Janet.

Have You Decided? Ananias’ question may be echoing in your mind: “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away, calling on the name of the Lord.” If you would like to know more about baptism, Pat would love to sit down and answer your questions.

Mission ’16

Brazil-Map-2pola-MMAP-mdIn six months, we have the privilege of sending two mission teams abroad. A team of 15 will be heading to Brazil to assist Earl Haubner and his crew, of Central Brazil Mission on their medical mission boat as it sails up the Amazon River. Leaving about the same time, the Porter family will be returning to Camp Ostróda, Poland to minister to families dealing with the scars from the Holocaust. Although you cannot personally go, you can be part of their mission by being prayer partners and your financial support.
